Day #17 – El Mirage

We had booked a night at the Malibu Inn with separate restroom.

The morning light and the vibe on the dry lake bed was fantastic.

From 7 am, things got busy.

A once in a lifetime experience. For more shots, check out my
LOWTECH blog.

Lazy sunday afternoon.

Day #16 – OC California

Saturday morning, we drove up to San Clemente where we met with Bob
Hill of the ACES to have a seaside breakfast and to check out his latest
project, a model a roadster.

While we had breakfast, he sold his 1932 three window coupe.

Seating position: check. Arm position: check.

We drove up further north into Orange County
until we got to Circle City Hot Rods in Orange
where we met with our friend Dana of the ACES
and shop owner Jimmy White.

Time for another great shop: the Cycle Lodge, run by Mike Davis
(Born Loser) and Grant Peterson (Freedom Machinery), the guys who put
up the annual Born Free Show.

What a cool shop! Our luggage was already
bursting but we just had to buy something.

Right behind the shop there's the work shop.

As our journey was coming to an end,
we had to get some gifts for our girls at home.

Girls love handbags. And what better than
getting an original Harvey's seatbelt bag?
Thanks again, Dana!

We also checked out Dana's home where we came across this nice truck.

Dana's 1933 roadster looking good as usual.

Day #15 – shopping time

You already may have guessed it: on day #15, I'm still in Fallbrook. In
the meantime, Dani went shopping to Orange and San Dimas. Here's what
he saw.
Car sighting on the highway heading north.

An early Ford at the Early Ford Store in San Dimas.

Early ford parts galore.

More parts.

On our last evening in Fallbrook, Dode and his wife Muggins invited us
together with Aaron, Stacey and Kyle to Tacos and Burritos at the local
mexican restaurant. The best mexican food ever! Thank you so much.

The last seconds in the life of a Burrito.

Day #14 – another day in Fallbrook

The Dragmaster at work.

Fallbrook history.

Dode, the Hemi and Kyle.

The best still lives are found in garages.

Rods.

Just a hobby shop.

Green gold. Or: holy guacamole.

Dani learning the master's secrets.

Paperwork needs to be done, too.

Day #13 – still in town

Carlsbad – our temporary home town.

Van sighting.

While I was working in Fallbrook, Dani visited Bill
and Ethel Norman. They had sold him a model a
roadster pick up 17 years ago. And they still recognized
him at first sight.

Another laid back evening in Fallbrook.

Day #12 – tuesday – another work day

We're still knee deep in drag racing history. During lunch break, we
walked around a little and discovered this.

The model A roadster on deuce rails was used for a movie. Don't
remember the name though. Note quickchange rear end.

The engine matched the look of the car.

Hot rod material everywhere.

This vintage fridge used to be at the Howard cams shop.
It still works.

In the evening, we went to see Aaron and Stacey Holland at their place.

It was good to see that Aaron's beautiful Ford custom project had evolved.

Great metalwork, flawless paintjob.

The roof was chopped 3 inches.

The car now runs and after a couple of adjustments, it should be
roadworthy soon.

After admiring this cool Econoline van, we headed back to Carlsbad.
